Nataly Ianicelli Cruzeiro

  • Ph.D. Student

Before joining the University of Pittsburgh in 2022, I earned a B.A. in Languages and Literature, specializing in Ancient Greek and Portuguese, and a master’s degree in Classics from the University of São Paulo. My master’s thesis consisted of a translation and commentary on Aristoxenus of Tarentum’s Elementa Harmonica.

My primary research interests encompass the intersections of ancient philosophy, ancient sciences, and the history of ideas. I’m interested in harmonics, astronomy, cosmology, epistemology, and scientific methods. More specifically, I’ve been exploring how ancient philosophers reflected upon their own knowledge and scientific practices and how these texts got to us. I’m also fascinated by philology, aesthetics, literary criticism, and the work of women scientists and philosophers in Antiquity.
